Maintenance Scientific Computing between 7th and 11th October 2024

During the maintenance starting on 7 October 2024 at 9:00 a.m., the LUIS cluster systems will switch to Rocky Linux 9 and the old BIGWORK storage system will be shut down offline for good.

We would like to inform you about an upcoming upgrade to the operating system on the LUIS compute cluster. Currently, the cluster runs on CentOS 7, which is no longer receiving software updates. To ensure continued security,  performance, and access to the latest software tools, we will be upgrading to Rocky Linux 9. The main compute cluster will be unavailable between October 7-11, 2024.

To help you prepare for this transition, a test cluster running Rocky Linux 9 is available from now until the start of  the major upgrade on October 7th. This test environment will allow you to verify that your scripts, applications,  and workflows are fully compatible with the new Operating System before the main cluster upgrade.

Detailed instructions on how to access the test cluster are available on our cluster documentation wiki page. Please review this information and begin testing as soon as possible. If you encounter any issues or have concerns during your testing, please report them to cluster-help@luis.uni-hannover.de.  Your feedback is crucial to ensure a smooth transition.  Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we work to enhance our computing environment.

Kind regards,

your cluster team
