The VPN service at Leibniz University Hannover
The VPN service of the LUIS allows the employees and students of the Leibniz University Hannover to connect from remote locations to the data network of the University. This is useful for securing connections from unencrypted wireless LANs or getting access to certain research material not available in public.
Use cases and limitations of the VPN service
While using the VPN service, the client gets an IP address from within the university network. This allows access to parts of the TIB databases and journals and also a range of other services that are restriced to the university network.
All communication between your computer and the VPN gateway is encrypted.
How to create new accounts
All employees and students of the Leibniz University Hannover can create VPN accounts by logging in to the account manager with the LUH-ID and subscribing to the WLAN/VPN service by assigning a password to that service.
The LUH-ID and the corresponding credentials have been sent to you together with your LeibnizCard (students) or to your institute address (employees).
Students of other universities cannot use the VPN service. Also, from the data networks of the student houses, VPN usage is not possible, however all relevant services can generally be used without VPN from those networks.
Automatic installation of the VPN client
If you want to use the VPN client, after logging in with your credentials on the site vpn-server.uni-hannover.de it should install by itself on your computer.
